Director Identification Number
(Director ID)
Are you currently a company director? If yes, please keep reading…
All company directors will soon need to have a unique director identification number (director ID). The introduction of a director ID is intended to tackle illegal activities and, increase Director accountability and traceability. Your Director ID will be recorded in a new database to be administered and operated by the ATO and be made available to the public.
Who needs to apply
All company directors will need to apply for a director ID. There are no exceptions.
How to apply
The quickest and easiest way is to apply online:
1. You will need to apply for a myGovID (Note this is a separate application to the normal myGov) and have personal identification documents on hand to achieve a "standard" or "strong" identity rating.
2. You will need documents to verify your identity.
3. Apply for your director ID once you have set up your myGovID.
Alternatively, you may apply by phone or paper lodgement/mail.
